Types of Cart Promotion
There are five types of cart promotions available. You can select a promotion based on whether you want to target specific customers, specific behaviors, or the general public.
1. Loyalty cart promotion
These promotions target specific customer groups based on their purchase history, preferences, or tier status.
- How it works: The system does not issue these to a customer manually. If a customer fits the criteria (for example, belongs to the "Gold" tier or has bought coffee five times), they automatically receive the benefit when they shop.
- Best for: Personalization and retention.
- Example: Gold-tier customers receive a 60% discount on coffee.
2. Loyalty earning cart promotion
These promotions are issued to a customer only when they complete a specific milestone or loyalty-related activity.
- How it works: An action, such as registering an account, updating a profile, or completing a specific number of transactions, triggers the benefit, such as a coupon or points.
- Best for: Providing benefits for non-transactional behaviors and data collection.
- Example: A brand encourages customers to update their profile by offering a flat 15% discount on their next purchase.
3. POS cart promotion
POS cart promotions are general discounts available to all customers who transact at the Point of Sale (POS).
- How it works: These apply automatically at checkout based on the cart contents.
- Best for: Clearance sales, weekend specials, or general inventory movement.
- Example: Clearance sale for a specific product category (Wafers). For example "Buy wafers for $2.90 and save $1.50. Available on weekends between 10 AM and 6 PM."
4. Rewards cart promotion
A rewards cart promotion is a redeemable item in your Rewards Catalog.
- How it works: Customers use their accrued loyalty points to "purchase" this promotion. Once redeemed, the promotion logic applies a discount to their cart.
- Best for: "Burning" liability (points) and increasing engagement with the rewards program.
- Example: Redeem 500 points to unlock a "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" voucher.
5. Code-linked cart promotion
Code-linked cart promotions are tied to specific physical or digital promo codes and are valid for anyone who possesses the code, regardless of their loyalty status.
- How it works: The customer must manually enter the code at checkout. Brands commonly use these in influencer marketing or partner campaigns.
- Key Rules:
- Each promo code can be limited to one use per customer.
- Codes expire automatically when the promotion ends.
- Brands can set Global Limits such as limiting total redemptions to the first 1,000 users.
- Example (Influencer Marketing):
- A brand provides an influencer named Mansi with the promo code HOLIMAN100.
- She shares it with her followers.
- The brand sets a limit so the code is only valid for the first 1,000 users who redeem it.
