Locations
Create and manage your organization's Stores, Zones, Concepts, and Tills from a single self-serve Locations page.
Locations represent the physical structure of your business. They help you organize where your business operates, from high-level business groupings down to individual stores and checkout points.
By organizing your locations into a structured hierarchy, you can manage your business more consistently as it grows. Instead of maintaining disconnected lists of stores or regions, Locations provide a single, standardized view of your business structure.
For example, a retail brand with stores across multiple cities might organize its business by region, group stores by business line, manage individual stores, and track the checkout terminals within each store.
To represent this hierarchy, Locations are organized into four entities:
- Zones group stores geographically (for example, North India or Bangalore East).
- Concepts group stores by business line or brand (for example, Fashion or Electronics).
- Stores represent the individual business locations or channels where customer transactions are recorded.
- Tills represent the checkout or POS terminals within a store where transactions are processed.
You can also use Labels to categorize locations and Collections to automatically group locations based on rules.
Note: Locations manages the same hierarchy described in Setup Store hierarchy. If your organization already has Concepts, Zones, Stores, and Tills configured there, they are available here as well.
By the end of this page, you'll know how to create, view, edit, and (where available) deactivate each entity type, bulk-upload records, and rename terms to match your brand's vocabulary.
Key terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Store | Any location where transactions happen, including physical outlets and online channels such as a website or app. See Creating a store. |
| Zone | A geographical grouping of stores, for example North India or Bangalore East. See Creating a zone. |
| Concept | A logical grouping of stores by business line or brand, for example Fashion or Electronics. See Creating a concept. A Concept is also the foundation for an Organization Unit. |
| Till | A service or checkout point inside a store, for example a POS terminal. Each Till belongs to exactly one Store. See Creating a till. |
| Label | A tag you attach to a Store to categorize or filter it, for example "Flagship" or "Pop-up." See the Labels API for how labels work across entities. |
| Collection | A saved, rule-based group of locations, for example "all stores in the North zone," that stays up to date automatically so you don't have to add or remove members by hand. See Grouping locations dynamically. |
Rename these terms to match your brand's own vocabulary. See Renaming location terms below.
Creating a store
To create a store, follow these steps:
-
Go to Entities > Locations > Stores.
-
Select New store.
-
Fill in the store details:
- Name and Code (required).
- External ID, an optional identifier from your own system. Select + External ID to add more than one.
- Description and Labels, both optional.
- Admin, to mark the store as an admin or test store instead of a live store.
- Under Hierarchy, select a Zone and Concept to place the store in your org's structure.
- Under Locale, set the store's Timezone (required), Language, and Currency.
- Select Details (Optional) to add store email, phone, landline, latitude and longitude, or custom attributes.
-
Select Add Store.
Note: Timezone, Language, and Currency set here are the store's own locale. They don't have to match your organization's defaults.
Viewing and editing a store
To view or edit a store, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Stores.
- On the Stores list, review each store's Name and Code, External ID, Status (Active or Deactivated), Labels, Parent zone, Parent concept, and when it was last updated. Select the Name/Code column header to sort stores alphabetically.
- Select a store to open its detail page, showing everything you configured when you created it.
- Select Edit to change any field except Code, then select Save. Your changes appear on the list right away.
Deactivating a store
To deactivate a store, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Tills.
- Open any Till that belongs to the store you want to deactivate.
- Select the parent store to open its details drawer.
- Set Status to Deactivated and save.
Note: The Archive option on the Stores list itself is marked "Coming soon" and can't be used yet, so deactivating currently has to go through a Till's parent store. Permanently deleting a store isn't available anywhere in the product.

To add many stores at once, follow these steps:
- Select the ⋯ menu next to New store, then select Bulk upload stores.
- Download the sample CSV.
- Fill in the mandatory columns without changing the headers or column order.
- Upload the file. You can add up to 500 stores in a single file.
Creating a zone
To create a zone, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Zones.
- Select New zone.
- Enter a Name and Code, and optionally an External ID and Description.
- Under Hierarchy, select a Parent zone to nest it under an existing zone. Leave it blank to map the zone directly to your organization.

Bulk-uploading zones
To add many zones at once, follow these steps:
- Select the ⋯ menu next to New zone, then select Bulk upload zones.
- Download the sample CSV.
- Fill in the mandatory columns (name, code, description, and pipe-separated externalId for multiple IDs) without changing the headers or column order.
- Upload the file.
Creating a concept
To create a concept, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Concepts.
- Select New concept.
- Enter a Name and Code, and optionally a Description and External ID.
- Under Hierarchy, select a Parent concept to nest it under an existing concept. Leave it blank to map the concept directly to your organization.
- Select Add Concept.
Support ticket required: The Make this an Organization Unit checkbox marks a Concept as an Organization Unit (OU). Turning on OU-level features, such as user access, loyalty programs, and reporting scoped to that unit, has previously required a ticket to the Platforms team. Confirm with Platforms whether selecting this checkbox alone activates OU behavior for your org, or whether a ticket is still needed.
Note: You're not locked into this choice at creation. You can turn Make this an Organization Unit on or off later from the Concept's Edit screen.
Viewing and editing a concept
To view or edit a concept, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Concepts.
- Use the Type filter (All, Organization unit, or Regular concept) to see which Concepts are enabled as OUs.
- Select a concept to open its detail page and see its parent Concept and child Concepts.
- Select Edit to change any field, then save.
Deactivating a concept
Open the ⋯ menu on a concept row, select Deactivate, and confirm. Use the Status filter above the list to see deactivated Concepts.
Note: Bulk-uploading Concepts isn't available yet; create and edit them one at a time.
Creating a till
To create a till, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Tills.
- Select New till.
- Enter a Name and Code, and optionally an External ID and Description.
- Select Admin if this is a test till rather than a live one.
- Under Hierarchy, select the parent Store. This is required: every Till belongs to exactly one Store.
- Select Add Till.
Viewing and editing a till
To view or edit a till, follow these steps:
- Go to Entities > Locations > Tills.
- Use the Admin and Status filters above the list to narrow down test tills or deactivated ones.
- Select a till to open its detail page, including its parent store.
- Select Edit to change any field, then save.
Deactivating a till
Open the ⋯ menu on a till row, select Deactivate, and confirm.
Note: Bulk-uploading Tills isn't available yet; create and edit them one at a time.
Renaming location terms (display names)
If your org uses different terminology internally, rename Store, Zone, Concepts, and Tills without changing how they work:
- From any tab on the Locations page, select Display names.
- Enter your preferred name for each level.
- Select Save names.
These names appear across the platform wherever that entity is shown.
Creating a label
Labels let you tag Stores, and other entities, for filtering and reporting.
To create a label, follow these steps:
-
Go to Entities > Locations > Labels.
-
Select Create Label.
-
Enter an External ID and Label Name (both required), and an optional Description.
-
Set an Expiry Configuration:
Option Behavior Never Expire The label stays on the entity indefinitely. Expire on a fixed date You choose a specific calendar date. Expire after X days The label expires a set number of days after it's applied. Expire at end of current month The label expires on the last day of the current month. Expire at end of current year The label expires on the last day of the current year. Expire at end of next year The label expires on the last day of next year. -
Select Add Label.
Deactivating a label
Open the ⋯ menu on a label row, select Deactivate, and confirm. Bulk-uploading Labels isn't available yet.
Grouping locations dynamically (collections)
Collections are rule-based groups of locations that refresh on a schedule, instead of a static list you maintain by hand.
- Go to Entities > Locations > Collections.
- Select Create collection.
- Enter a Collection name and optional External ID and Description.
- Choose a Refresh frequency for how often membership recalculates.
- Under Membership criteria, add one or more condition blocks (attribute, operator, value). Choose AND or OR to control how conditions combine within a block and across blocks.
- Select Save collection.
When to raise a support ticket
- Enabling a Concept as an Organization Unit may still require a ticket to the Platforms team. Confirm your org's current process. See the note under Creating a concept.
- Permanently deleting a Store, Zone, Concept, or Till isn't available in the product.
FAQs
Q: Can I delete a Store, Zone, Concept, or Till instead of deactivating it?
A: No. Deleting isn't available for any of these entities. Deactivating (where available) hides the entity from active use without removing its history.
Q: Can I deactivate every entity type from its own list?
A: Not yet. Concepts, Tills, and Labels have a working Deactivate action on their list. Stores and Zones show an Archive option marked "Coming soon" instead, so deactivating a Store currently requires going through a Till's parent store, and there's no way to deactivate a Zone yet.
